Position Overview

The English Teacher will implement the school’s Core Knowledge and Great Books programs, and, at the high school level, may teach courses within the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who values classical education, rigorous academics, and a structured environment focused on student growth.

Responsibilities

  • Teach five daily classes following the established English curriculum and Great Books literature program, incorporating IB coursework where applicable.

  • Deliver instruction aligned with Core Knowledge and IB methodologies.

  • Plan and implement lessons with clear objectives and measurable outcomes.

  • Regularly assess student progress, providing timely feedback through progress reports and report cards.

  • Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Department Chair and Leadership Team.

  • Collaborate weekly with colleagues in the English Department to refine curriculum, analyze data, and share best practices.

  • Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment using the school’s assertive discipline model.

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the English Department Chair or Assistant Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze information, problem-solve, and make data-informed decisions.

  • Proven ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Organizational skills to manage multiple classes and responsibilities effectively.

  • Commitment to the mission, values, and academic rigor of MVRCS.

  • Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment.

Evaluation: Annual performance review
