About the Position: This position is in the PSP Planning Division, CANTON, MS in MADISON COUNTY. We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Accountant III to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial reports and managing the accounting of grants. This role requires a deep understanding of financial regulations and grant management processes. Grant Management and MAGIC Experience are required.Key Responsibilities:Create and maintain grants following Federal & State guidelines, Grant Reporting Categories, Payroll reimbursements, etc.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.Manage the full cycle of accounting for grants, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.Coordinate with internal departments to gather financial data and provide insights.Analyze financial information to identify trends, variances, and potential areas of improvement.Assist with the preparation of tax returns and other regulatory filings.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of grant requirements and ensure compliance with all financial regulations.Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits.Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.**This is a TIME-LIMITED position with The Mississippi Department of Public Safety.**

Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 4-5 years of experience and/or appropriate certification. Agency preferred qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA preferred. Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on financial reporting and grants. Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision. MAGIC & Grant Accounting skills preferred.
