Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and strategies. Our institution is dedicated to preparing the next generation of eye care providers, educators, and innovators through a rigorous curriculum and extensive clinical experience. As a graduate institution located in the heart of Boston, we serve approximately 530 students from 34 states and 8 countries.

The Center for Eye Care is our clinical education affiliate, providing vital optometric services with nearly 90,000 annual patient visits across more than 43 locations, including many community health centers in Greater Boston.

Key Responsibilities:

As the CFO, you will oversee all financial operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with professional and legal accounting guidelines. You will report directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, collaborating with various stakeholders to drive our mission forward.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Financial Operations:
- Direct accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance and analysis of financial data.
- Oversee the reconciliation of external clinic revenues and expenses, along with revenue from professional services agreements.
- Manage fixed asset inventory and review contracts and business agreements.
- Handle student billing and collections, considering the impacts of withdrawals, leaves, and graduations.
- Supervise the management of endowment draws and spending policies related to restricted funds, including scholarship support.
- Manage PILOT and other required payment programs.

- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare a monthly internal financial reporting package, including comparative financial statements and productivity reporting for external clinics.
- Lead the annual audit process and handle institutional reporting to external entities (IRS 990, MA PCs, eZ-Audit, etc.).
- Serve as the liaison with the Finance, Audit & Business Affairs Committee (FABA), scheduling meetings and preparing minutes.

- Budgeting:
- Oversee the development of all operational and capital budgets and manage the annual budget process.
- Conduct periodic forecasts and variance analysis, including tuition forecasting.

- Team Management:
- Supervise the Business Office, Financial Aid Office, and Grants and Contracts Accounting and Administration.
- Lead a team of financial professionals, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

- Additional Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor institutional risks and manage insurance agreements.
- Develop and maintain internal audit control systems and manage public records processes.
- Oversee leasing contracts and maintain corporate registrations and licenses.

- A high level of integrity and ethical standards, along with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or an MBA (CPA or equivalent advanced degree preferred).
- At least 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior financial management role within higher education or nonprofit healthcare.
- Experience with financial systems and tools (knowledge of Jenzabar is a plus).
- Familiarity with Board of Trustees operations (presentations, reports, preparing minutes, etc.).

Compensation and Benefits:
