Under the direction of the Department Director and supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab Manager, the Echocardiography Technologist (Echo Tech) performs high-quality diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures in accordance with department protocols and standards. This role provides services to a diverse patient population, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.

The Echo Tech serves as a clinical resource and mentor to less experienced sonographers and acts as a liaison for patients, families, medical staff, and the community, upholding Athena Healthcare's values of compassion, integrity, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform cardiac ultrasound imaging procedures including echocardiograms, color Doppler, and stress testing.
• Ensure imaging quality, accurate patient records, and timely documentation.
• Provide compassionate care and clear communication to patients and their families.
• Participate in quality control and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain and operate ultrasound equipment in a safe and effective manner.
• Support less experienced technologists with training and clinical guidance.
• Adhere to all regulatory requirements, infection control, and safety protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of a cardiac echocardiography program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) of the American Medical Association (AMA), or equivalent education/training (e.g., self-study, on-the-job training).
• Current certification upon hire from one of the following:
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or
• Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (upon hire).

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in cardiac echocardiography, color Doppler, and stress testing from ARDMS .
• Prior experience as a hospital-based sonographer.
