Job Summary

As a Summer Intern at Black & Veatch in Overland Park, KS., you will play a meaningful role in addressing some of the world’s most critical infrastructure challenges. This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to diverse, impactful projects that support our clients’ goals while fostering your professional growth and advancing the success of Black & Veatch.

Key Responsibilities

To demonstrate leadership and adaptability, with the willingness to take ownership of tasks or projects

Develop project plans with the intention of delivering requires such as resources, timing/milestones, and risks

The ability to achieve goals and success across functionalities

Drive to overcome the most challenging obstacles and look for ways to improve results

Collaborate on projects that utilize generative AI to enhance the capabilities of data-driven reporting and development of AI products.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of software applications used in the design and construction of power plants.
  • Collaborate with engineers to understand the requirements and specifications for power plant design software.
  • Engage in projects that involve the integration of software with 3rd party power plant design systems.
  • Assist with the development of user interfaces for power plant design software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics or a related major
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g., HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery)
  • Familiarity with back-end languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python) and JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, Node.js)
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL), web servers and UI/UX design
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and the desire to learn.
  • Adaptable and dependable.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in Information Technology or related degree program. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This internship position is expected to be in the office on a full-time basis.
