Biology majors Grace Krueger ’25 and Damanpreet Khaira ’25, under the mentorship of Professor Emily Wollmuth, presented their Summer Undergraduate Research Experienceproject at the Wisconsin Science Education and Research Conferenceheld on Oct. 4-6.

Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine Award for best poster presentation. The award includes a cash prize and signed copies of keynote speaker Sean B. Carroll’s book, “The Serengeti Rules.” Their poster was selected for this award from over 200 posters presented by undergraduate and graduate students from across the state of Wisconsin.
Grace and Damanpreet’s research is focused on assembling and analyzing the genome of a newly identified species of bacteria found in the hindgut of the herbviorous fish Kyphosus sydneyanus. This work is in collaboration with researchers from Cornell University, Auckland University of Technology, and University of Auckland.
