Job Description
Low Voltage and Audiovisual Systems Designer (Contract)
Location: Austin, TX (Remote or Hybrid)
The Werd Company is growing, and we’re looking for a sharp, well-rounded Low Voltage Systems Designer to join our team in Austin. This isn’t just about AV/IT—our projects intersect with access control, structured cabling, surveillance, control systems, and more. You’ll collaborate across departments to deliver systems that are smart, scalable, and contractor-friendly.
What You’ll Do:
- Design & Specify: Build out system designs based on project scope, client needs, and site conditions—including AV, IT, access control, surveillance, and related LV systems.
- Scope & Execute: Define BOMs, produce technical drawings, and coordinate with PMs and field teams to ensure systems are delivered on time and on budget.
- Client Discovery: Participate in walkthroughs (as needed) and discovery meetings to assess infrastructure, environment, and client goals.
- Produce Drawings: Draft or modify floorplans, elevations, signal flow (one-line), and rack elevations (Delivered in a set of DWG, VW, and/or RVT files).
- Collaborate: Work with internal and external stakeholders including project managers, technicians, and vendors for seamless execution.
- Problem-Solve: Anticipate challenges and propose value-engineered solutions that preserve functionality without compromising integrity.
- Handoff & Support: Participate in internal handoffs and serve as a resource during installation and commissioning.
What You Bring:
- 6+ Years in commercial AV/IT or broader low-voltage systems design.
- Fluency in Systems Design —from distributed AV and conferencing to structured cabling, security, and access control.
- CTS-D (Required) ; additional credentials a plus (e.g., BICSI, NICET, etc.).
- CAD & BIM Proficiency: AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit, Vectorworks or similar.
- Brand Experience: Familiarity with QSC, Shure, Symetrix, Atlona, Crestron, etc.
- Strong Communication: Able to convey design intent clearly to field teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Process-Savvy: Understands budgeting, documentation standards, and scalable infrastructure.
- Tech-Forward: Solid competency with Google Workspace; not afraid to learn new tools.
You Might Be a Fit If:
- You understand big-picture intent and still sweat the details.
- You think in terms of signal flow, serviceability, and future-proofing , not just equipment lists.
- You’ve learned the hard way that just because it works on paper doesn’t mean it works in the field.
- You understand that good design is about solving problems, not stacking features.
- You can speak both tech and human , translating complexity into clarity for clients and contractors.
- You’ve seen enough to know what not to do , and you still care enough to get it right.
- You don’t need micromanagement—you take ownership, ask the right questions , and move projects forward.
Role Details:
- Contract Role (W-9).
- Compensation: Flat rate or hourly, depending on project scope and experience.
- Remote-friendly with occasional site visits/walkthroughs as needed.
