Nuclear Software Quality Assurance Engineer The Nuclear Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer is responsible for ensuring that software products are developed and released with the necessary level of quality per TerraPower's Software Quality Assurance Program. The Software Engineer will assist with the development, continuous improvement, and implementation of the SQA Program.
The SQA Program covers all software categories (i.e., Design and Analysis software, Digital Structures, Systems, or Components software, and software used to support quality requirements) and all TerraPower projects. This position requires knowledge and understanding of the software development lifecycle and nuclear regulations such as, ASME NQA-1-2015, NRC RG 1.28, DOE O 414.1D, DOE G 414.1-4, etc. This position works closely with QA, IT, Engineering, and other business support organizations to ensure software applications are implemented and maintained according to requirements. The ideal candidate possesses experience in both software development and software quality assurance specific to the nuclear industry.
Responsibilities • Guide software implementations through the SQA process to ensure compliance with TerraPower policies, program descriptions, and implementing procedures.
• Assist with the development, continuous improvement, and implementation of the SQA Program.
• Apply knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle in the nuclear industry, to support software quality assurance activities and ensure quality is integrated into the software development process.
• Understanding of various nuclear regulations such as, ASME NQA-1-2015, NRC RG 1.28, DOE O 414.1D, DOE G 414.1-4, etc.
• Understanding of the SQA configuration management, procurement, change management, commercial grade dedication, verification, and testing.
• Train and support software development teams on the governing SQA plans and procedures.
• Author software quality assurance guidance materials, including procedures, guidelines, and templates.
• Review software quality assurance requirements, design and implementation, and test documentation for compliance with regulatory and procedural requirements.
• Perform QA software assessments. Direct the resolution of findings and follow-up.
• Aid line personnel in the development of test strategy, test procedure, and test plan for project developed and acquired software applications.
• Communicate software quality objectives and requirements to company management and co-workers with a goal to foster a company-wide culture of compliance.
• Participate in overall company initiatives and goals as applicable to the position.
Key Qualifications and Skills • Advanced degree in technical discipline, information technology, or engineering, with 8 years' experience; or equivalent related work experience with 6+ years' relevant experience in lieu of degree.
• At a minimum, 6 years of experience with software development or software quality assurance in a nuclear regulated environment implementing ASME NQA-1-2015, subpart 2.7, NRC RG 1.28, DOE O 414.1D, DOE G 414.1-4, etc.
• Experience with the development and/or maintenance of software requirements definition, testing, and documentation.
• Familiarity with software development lifecycle tools (e.g., version control, continuous integration, unit testing, integration testing, requirements management, configuration management)
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to maintain good working relationship with management, peers, and customers of all technical levels to resolve software quality issues.
• A high degree of trust and integrity, ability to communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to plan and implement methods for process improvement and trouble-shooting issues.
• Experience facilitating root cause analysis and risk management identification and tracking related to software development programs.
• Software Development Project Management experience.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Experience interfacing with multiple disciplines, including QA, IT, and Engineering.
• Experience with software used to support quality requirements (e.g., Omega PIMS, DevonWay, Agile, ATOM, Oracle ERP, Documentum).

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 - 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
