Responsibilities:


Job Summary

The Podiatry Tech in the office setting requires a variety of skills, including but not limited to: receptionist, registration duties, diagnosis coding, data collection for billing procedures, charge posting, maintains appointment schedules, schedules surgeries/procedures and obtains appropriate authorizations/referrals and provides appropriate patient instructions per physician orders. Back office patient care duties is required in some clinics/practices including but not limited to toenail trims, callus debridement, wound care and suture removal.

Duties

  • Maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs; including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document all information in patients chart
  • Gathers data relevant to the patient’s age group and individual needs
  • Assists physician and physician assistant in exam rooms
  • Performs the following back office duties:
    • Trimming toenails
    • Callus Debridement
    • Assist with dressing changes
    • Suture removal
    • Sanitize instruments
    • DM shoe measurements
    • Set up prior to procedure
    • Clean and sanitize patient room after every visit
    • Instructs, educates and demonstrates application and use of braces, straps, spacers
  • Give instructions to patients as instructed by the physician or physician assistant
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, instruments, prepare sterilization as required
  • Register patients for office visits with accurate demographic information
  • Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physician and physician assistants
  • Completes data collection for billing purposes, diagnostic and procedure codes, post patients charges into computer
  • Administer or handle medications
  • Schedules procedures and follow up appointments with accurate patient information
  • Gets authorization from insurance companies for approved referrals and completes any necessary forms related to authorizations
  • Confirms appointment schedule and follow-up of missed appointments
  • Maintains all logs and required documentation
  • Coordinate and track DME orders and dispensing
  • Maintains a neat, clean and functional work station
  • Maintains positive public relations image with peers, patients and visitors by presenting a positive, helpful attitude
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Functional Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch.

Generally lifting objects not more than 25 lbs. and/or carrying objects weighing 10 lbs.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with help.
