Minimum Starting Salary: $29.74 per hour / 7.5 hour work day
Summary: The Public Information Associate (working title, Assistant Director of Media Strategy) plans and develops content that best promotes the UIS brand.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Selects and covers stories that best promote UIS via proactive and reactive media relations strategies, social-media tactics and web postings.
- Backs up and supports the Director of Media Strategy, such as responding to reporters, staffing media events, writing and editing press releases and advising on crisis communication strategies. Serves as secondary spokesperson for the university.
- Supports university strategic communication tactics in coordination with UIS Marketing & Brand Strategy, Web & Digital Strategy, Enrollment Management and other university partners. This includes intermediate-level videography/video editing and photography.
- Manages, monitors and creates content for the top-level UIS social media accounts. Serves as the university's main contact for managing social media accounts; this includes advising university social media managers on best practices and ensuring they comply with the university's social media policy.
- Serves as website editor for the UIS Newsroom and other applicable websites
- Tracks media activity and produces daily UIS in the News report
- Assists with supervision of student interns and graduate assistants
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, radio/television broadcasting, web/digital media, or a related field.
- One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in public relations, journalism, social media management, social media content production, digital content creation, communication management, newspaper reporting, radio/television broadcasting, or web/digital media.
- Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Specialty Factors: Two years of experience writing and producing content for websites or social media platforms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of media and software, including computers, editing software, still and video cameras, and online platforms.
Working knowledge of AP Style.
