Labor Delivery Registered Nurse Job Description:
· Patient monitoring:
Continuously monitoring fetal heart rate and maternal vital signs during labor, including timing contractions.
· Pain management:
Administering epidurals and other pain relief medications as needed.
· Vaginal exams:
Performing vaginal exams to assess cervical dilation and progress of labor.
· Assisting during delivery:
Providing support and guidance to the mother during pushing, assisting with forceps or vacuum deliveries, and performing episiotomies if necessary.
· C-section assistance:
Assisting the surgical team during cesarean deliveries.
· Postpartum care:
Monitoring the mother's recovery after delivery, including vital signs, bleeding, and uterine contractions.
· Newborn assessment:
Evaluating the newborn's health immediately after birth, including Apgar scores.
· Patient education:
Providing information and support to the mother and partner regarding labor stages, pain management options, and newborn care.
· Identifying complications:
Recognizing potential complications during labor and delivery, such as fetal distress or abnormal bleeding, and taking appropriate action.
· Communication and collaboration:
Working closely with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
