Job Description
We are excited to invite a compassionate and experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will provide specialized educational services to students with visual impairments across various age groups and educational settings. Your expertise in adapting curriculum, materials, and instructional strategies will be essential in meeting the unique needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs tailored to each student's specific visual impairment and educational needs.
Direct Instruction: Deliver direct instruction in core academic subjects and adaptive skills, including specialized instruction in Braille literacy and pre-Braille skills.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including parents, therapists, and educational specialists, to ensure coordinated services and effective progress monitoring.
Assessment: Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary to facilitate optimal learning outcomes.
Consultation and Training: Provide consultation to general education teachers and staff to support the inclusion and accommodation of visually impaired students. Offer training on effective strategies for supporting students with visual impairments.
Materials Adaptation: Adapt and create instructional materials and resources to meet the needs of visually impaired students, incorporating accessible formats and technology.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
Certification in Visual Impairment Education or a commitment to obtain this certification.
Experience working with students who have visual impairments, along with familiarity with various eye conditions and their educational implications.
Knowledge of Braille and other alternative communication methods.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Additional Information:
