Responsibilities:
- Teach in an elementary or secondary school instructional program and create a class environment favorable to learning.
- Teach a broad range of subjects or specialized subject matter(s), including special needs students.
- Motivate students to achieve their maximum potential.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Create Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) and Evaluation Reports for special needs and regular students.
- Translate lesson plans into effective learning experiences and integrate subject area content and technology.
- Adapt teaching materials and methods to create relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
- Instruct students in specialization and subject matter areas as specified by state law and administrative regulations.
- Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions.
- Assess and evaluate students' needs and provide instruction in individual or group sessions.
- Act as a mentor to students and establish behavior standards.
- Formulate and implement behavior modification programs for students.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
- Encourage students to think independently and develop original ideas.
- Evaluate students' progress, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
- Communicate with students, counselors, and parents through conferences and other means.
- Maintain professional licensing and familiarity through in-service education and selected professional materials.
- Select and requisition books and instructional materials, and organize classroom resources.
- Participate in curriculum development programs, faculty committees, and student activity sponsorship as required.
- Meet state and federal mandated timelines and procedures for completing special education due process paperwork.
Qualifications:
- Properly licensed to teach Social Studies by MDE.
- Experience working in a multicultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in teaching or related field working with children, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
