Job Description

Laidrey in Tarzana, CA is looking for one specialty coffee barista with food prep to join our 15 person strong team. We are located on 18600 Ventura Blvd. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, punctual, and engaged.

Laidrey Roasters is the first Roastery of it’s kind in Tarzana, CA. We are a specialty coffee roastery and coffee shop located on Ventura Blvd. Our mission is to bring ethically sourced coffee to our community, roast it perfection and serve it fresh always. We believe in bring our community together through delicious coffee and excellent hospitality.

 

Barista Role

The role of the Barista is to maintain the standards of specialty coffee, work together as a team with ownership and supervisors, maintain an organized and clean work space. The baristas work with attention to detail, creating a vibrant customer culture as well as a healthy setting. They execute Laidrey’s high standards and hold themselves accountable to these standards.

 

The barista’s responsibilities include all day-to-day operations of the store, managing and training barista staff, education customers on our menu, making recommendations based on customer preferences, upselling special items and taking orders.

 

To be successful in this role, the barista should have specialty coffee level skills in brewing, time management skills, organizational skills, customer service skills, knowledge of brewing methods and specialty drinks, and a motivation to keep the store clean and presentable. They should be flexible to work various shifts throughout the weekly schedule. They should have provide customer service.

 

This role’s valued responsibilities include: taking accountability of their responsibilities, ask questions when roles or duties are unclear, taking lunches at their designated times, maintaining a clean and safe working environment, maintaining inventory, making sure no item goes below it’s PAR, testing for quality control of all food and beverage items, delegating tasks such as cleaning and maintaining all areas of the shop, executing opening, mid, and closing procedures. The below includes the continued duties of the Barista.

 

DUTIES WHEN WORKING OR NOT WORKING A SHIFT:

Barista Duties:

• Set a positive tone and strong work ethic, leading by example

• Comply with Laidrey Handbook rules as well as direction from your shift lead, supervisor, and manager.

• Communicate information and any changes to your team

• Communicate any disciplinary concerns with the owner/manager immediately in order to complete the discipline control protocol (the steps in this protocol should be discussed/carried out in person, not over texts, emails or phone calls)

• Keep the store clean and presentable, modifying checklists as needed to maintain a clean environment

• Assist leadership with weekly inventory

DUTIES WHEN WORKING A SHIFT:

First Priority - Customers:

• Immediately greet customers as they enter

• Engage customers before taking orders (i.e. “How are you today?”)

• Educate customers on menu items and answer any questions they ask

• Discern customers preferences and make recommendations accordingly

• Take orders while paying attention to details (i.e. preferences of roast, dairy and syrup)

• Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)

• Serve prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins as well as preparing food by following the food assembly procedures.

• Prepare and serve beverages following recipes

Second Priority - Between Customers:

• Support in Opening and closing the store (first and last person here)

• Assess what needs accomplished in your shift, then prioritize and complete

• Keep moving and working, checking for quality and thoroughness

• Manage syrup quantities - maintaining recipe integrity

• Manage storage areas and delegate all deliveries when they arrive to supervisor or Barista. Complete arrival check with SOP sheets.

• Count and close cash drawer after closing, bundling money for deposit.

· Write any communication from closing shift to opening shift on the communication log located in the back room.

• Notice if equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs

• Comply with health and safety regulations

• Recommend new menu items and communicate customer feedback to Owners

• Keep the bar area clean

• Brew drip coffee as needed

• Maintain an empty dirty dish bin 

• Wash and put away dishes in the storage room

• Replenish inventory on retail racks and tables.

• Maintain a clean dining area, sanitizing tables and chairs, and sweeping crumbs on the floor

• Maintain stock of syrups, bar fridge, pastries, bagged coffee and merchandise

• Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates, cups, lids, and all inventory

• Complete tasks on the checklist (for the appropriate shift) with initials by who did what task, working ahead to ensure completion before the shift is over.

• Complete daily tasks as possible (first shift), and complete before end of day (second shift)

• If there is time and it is appropriate, complete items on the next shift's checklist

 

Prerequisites for barista job:

Minimum 1 year experience working with food and beverage in a hospitality or restaurant.

Current Food Handlers License

Current Driver’s License

Car Insurance

  • Ability to drive to events for coffee cart
