Job Description


1st Choice, LLC is seeking a talented Sr. Communications Specialist to join our team on a temporary contract supporting a federal agency focused on environmental conservation and wildlife protection in Atlanta, GA. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of the agency’s conservation efforts through a variety of media and communication channels.
Responsibilities:
  • Content Creation: Develop and coordinate written and video material for environmental recovery and climate resiliency projects. This includes news releases, media advisories, descriptions, updates, scripts for web, video, and audio productions, social media posts, and key messages.
  • Media Relations: Pitch stories to regional and national reporters, enhancing coverage of the agency’s work to recover species and habitats. Work with partners to highlight climate-resilient ecosystem projects.
  • Multimedia Production: Conduct audio and video interviews with agency staff, contractors, scientists, and subject matter experts. Assist with editing audio and video content. Deliver professional video productions (1-5 minutes long) and provide archived video files for later use.
  • Digital Communications: Utilize a variety of communication tools and software to prepare written materials, complemented by photographic images and video productions.
  • Travel: Candidate should expect travel to various project sites within the Southeast region, with a minimum estimate of 2-4 weeks per year. The travel frequency and duration will vary depending on project requirements.
  • Work Schedule: Average of 36 hours per week, with variability depending on project demands. Some weeks may require additional hours during peak project periods, with approximately 30 days' notice of significant changes.
Work Environment:
  • Location: This position will primarily be based at designated locations within the Southeast region. Some work can be performed remotely, depending on project requirements.
  • Travel: Travel to project sites is required and will vary based on project demands.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Relevant degree or equivalent experience in communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience as a journalist, preferably within a federal government environment.
    • Understanding of the firearm and fishing industries is strongly recommended.
    • Experience in writing and editing in various styles for different audiences.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in digital media content creation, including social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
    • Competence in using computer-based data systems, digital and video cameras, and photo editing software.
    • Ability to produce professional-quality video content, including filming, conducting interviews, editing, and archiving.
Additional Information:
  • Furnished Equipment: Candidate must provide all necessary equipment, as the government will not supply any tools, software, or hardware for this role.
