Job Description
The Structured Cabling Lead will play a key role in executing, coordinating, and overseeing structured cabling installations in commercial and industrial environments. This role combines strong technical proficiency with leadership and mentorship capabilities. The Lead works closely with cabling technicians, project managers, and clients to ensure high-quality project delivery while maintaining compliance with industry standards, schedules, and safety protocols.
RESPONSIBILITIES ARE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Lead and support a team of cabling technicians on job sites, setting the standard for quality and safety.
- Coordinate daily activities and ensure efficient task completion based on project priorities.
- Act as the on-site point of contact for project managers and escalate issues as necessary.
- Guide the installation of structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper), ensuring alignment with specifications and best practices.
- Interpret blueprints, floorplans, and schematics to ensure proper execution of tasks.
- Track work progress and communicate updates to supervisors or project management.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to less experienced technicians.
- Conduct quality control checks and assist in resolving technical challenges.
- Help ensure compliance with OSHA, company, and industry safety regulations.
- Participate in site walk-throughs and assist in resolving punch list items.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant technical training is a plus.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in structured cabling, with fiber optic specialization preferred.
- Prior experience in a team leadership or lead technician role strongly preferred.
- Industry certifications (e.g., FOA, BICSI) are advantageous.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
- Deep knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling installation, splicing, and testing.
- Strong leadership presence with a collaborative and mentoring approach.
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to adapt on-site.
- Clear communication and interpersonal abilities with team members and clients.
- Reliable, organized, and able to work under pressure in dynamic environments.
- Valid driver’s license required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequent travel to various job sites as required.
- Work performed in outdoor, warehouse, or construction environments.
- Physically demanding role requiring lifting, climbing, kneeling, and prolonged periods on feet.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and noise levels typical of construction settings.
