Job Title: HUB SHOP Manager (Thrift Store Manager)

Reports To: Executive Director

Job Type: 30-40 Hours a Week 

Salary: Commensurate with experience

About The HUB:

The HUB is a vibrant community center dedicated to Supporting Independent Living for Seniors and People with disabilities The HUB SHOP is our on-site thrift store, playing a vital role in providing funding to run The HUB Center for Seniors, offering affordable goods to the community and providing clothing and necessary goods at no cost to those in need.

Position Summary:

The HUB SHOP Manager is a dynamic and hands-on leader responsible for the overall operation, growth, and success of The HUB's thrift store. This role requires a blend of retail expertise, merchandising skills, marketing and advertising ability, strong organizational skills, and a passion for community service. The Manager will oversee all aspects of the store, from merchandise acquisition and display to staff supervision and customer service, ensuring a positive and engaging experience for both shoppers and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Store Operations & Management:
  • Oversee daily operations of The HUB SHOP, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory management.
  • Ensure the store is clean, organized, visually appealing, and well-stocked.
  • Develop and implement efficient systems for receiving, sorting, pricing, and displaying donated merchandise.
  • Manage and reconcile daily sales, deposits, and financial records.
  • Monitor and manage store expenses, ensuring adherence to budget.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, volunteers, and customers.
  • Address and resolve customer inquiries and complaints professionally.
  • Merchandise & Visual Merchandising:
  • Strategically price donated items to maximize revenue while offering fair value to customers.
  • Implement effective visual merchandising strategies to enhance product presentation and drive sales.
  • Identify and promote high-value items, unique finds, and seasonal merchandise.
  • Ensure a consistent flow of fresh inventory to the sales floor.
  • Team Leadership & Development:
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate a team of volunteers and/or paid staff.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and provide clear direction and feedback.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and supportive work environment.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching

  • Sales & Marketing:
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase sales and profitability.
  • Plan and execute promotions, sales events, and special initiatives to attract customers.
  • Collaborate with The HUB's marketing team to promote the thrift store through various channels (social media, local advertising, etc.).
  • Monitor sales trends and adjust inventory and merchandising accordingly.

  • Community Engagement & Mission Alignment:
  • Act as a positive ambassador for The HUB Shop and its mission.
  • Engage with donors and customers, fostering strong community relationships.
  • Ensure the thrift store operation aligns with The HUB's overall goals and values.
  • Identify opportunities for community partnerships or collaborations.
  • Reporting & Analysis:
  • Generate regular sales, inventory, and operational reports.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide regular updates to the Executive Director on store performance.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in retail management, preferably in a thrift store or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, visual merchandising, and inventory control.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to recruit, train, motivate, and manage a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
  • Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to lift and move merchandise (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A passion for community service and The HUB's mission.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and some evenings as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with non-profit organizations or social enterprises.
  • Knowledge of vintage or collectible items.
